When she finally started having children, Kourtney Kardashian was responsible for the marriage of two of my all time favorite things: celebrity babies and the entire Kardashian family. Now that she's pregnant with her third child, Kourtney's a seasoned mom, and she's obviously pretty well acquainted with the process of being with child in general. So acquainted, in fact, that Kourtney Kardashian decided to show off her naked pregnant bod in all its glory when she posed for DuJour, and I want to give her a round of applause. On a regular day, Kourtney is one of the prettiest people ever, and now that she's pregnant, I love that she's showing off that that stage of life can be totally beautiful, too. Even better? The interview that accompanies the photo is a big reminder of exactly how body-positive Kourtney is — pregnant or not.
Because according to Kourt herself, it's not so much about the fact that pregnancy comes with weight gain and stretch marks, it's about celebrating a special time where you're actually growing a human child inside of you. That's amazing, and whatever form your body takes during the time is perfect.
"What appeals to me is celebrating the shape of my body being pregnant and capturing that time in my life," she said. "It's a wonderful thing to be able to show my children these photographs one day and say, 'This was you inside.'"
Although Kourtney, her body, and just about everything else she does are under constant scrutiny by the media and the E! cameras, she's managed to hold a ridiculous amount of poise and confidence, and that's something I'm incredibly envious of. Intentionally or not, Kourtney's been spending her time in the spotlight imparting important lessons about loving yourself, and I think we could all learn from her.
Don't be ashamed of your body
"To me, nudity is not something to be ashamed of," Kourtney also said in the DuJour interview. "I'm not embarrassed of my body. I'm at my best when I'm pregnant. It's such an amazing feeling, the transformation that your body goes through. There's something about that that's so empowering and beautiful, and I just really embrace it."
Even if you're not pregnant and naked... or pregnant... or naked, it's important to remember that your body in its natural form isn't something you should be ashamed of. Your body does so many awesome things. Your legs, even if you think they are too skinny or too thick, help get you where you need to go. Your eyes, even if you don't think they're pretty, help you see the people you love. And that's what's most important.
Don't pay attention to what other people think
As someone in the spotlight, Kourtney inevitably deals with a fair amount of criticism on a daily basis. She's stopped letting it get to her, though, and even those of us who aren't subject to the Hollywood rumor mill could stand to take a page out of her book. She told Natural Health,
I do not read tabloids. I used to get Google Alerts to be aware of what was being said, but it was just a waste of time. I thought, I don’t need to see this. Why do I care what people I don’t even know think? I’m busy with the kids, and they show you what life’s about, what’s really important. They make it really easy for me not to pay attention.
Every size is beautiful
Kourtney and her sisters all have very different body types, and when Piers Morgan made a comment that he was "allergic" to women who are a size zero during an interview with Kourtney and Kim, Kourtney piped up that she, in fact, wears a size zero, and went on to talk about how much she likes her body, especially her boobs. Go Kourt!
