FLOTUS Gets Holiday Dressing Right in Lhuillier

by Erin Mayer

If you're anything like me, you spend most of December brainstorming about awesome outfits to wear for the holidays. And, if you're anything like me, you often come up short. Something about the combination of freezing cold temps and high expectations makes nailing holiday dressing damn near impossible. This year, I suggest taking a page from FLOTUS's book. Michelle Obama wore a sparkly Monique Lhuillier dress for an event and it was everything a holiday look should be.

MObama is well-known for her excellent sartorial decisions, so I'm not exactly surprised that she knocked it out of the park for the 2014 Kennedy Center Honors gala, which honored Tom Hanks, Sting, Al Green, ballerina Patricia McBride, and Lily Tomlin. According to Fashionista, Michelle Obama opted for a pale pink floor-length dress from Lhuillier's spring 2015 collection. The dress featured layers of fluffy tulle and intricate, Art Deco-style embroidery. She paired the look with hefty statement earrings and a jeweled cocktail ring.

While a dress this glam might be a bit much for your annual holiday dinner (not to mention a touch out of your price range), there's plenty of inspiration to go around. You may not be able to scoop up a Lhuillier, but you can find layered tulle and sparkly beading at pretty much any retailer at this time of year. These are time-honored elements of formalwear, but MObama makes them seem totally modern.

Perfect winter evening wear in a nutshell!
