"Attention Litchfield inmates! Your beauty guru and hair-care extraordinaire has traded in her jumpsuit for some seriously glamorous gowns! That is all." Your favorite Litchfield lady is nothing short of fabulous, and this just proves it. Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox covers Candy magazine's latest issue with a slew of others transgender beauties.
Candy magazine, apparently the world's first "transversal style" magazine, has packed its Winter issue full of role models (the theme of the issue), and I couldn't agree more. With so many strong and brave — not to mention fabulous — women, how could this cover be anything but inspirational?!
Laverne's co-cover ladies include Janet Mock, the transgender activist, author, and former staff editor of People magazine's online edition; transgender model and founder of the advocacy group Gender Proud, Geena Rocero; and Isis King, the former America's Next Top Model contestant and fashion designer — plus 11 others. How many times have you've seen such a huge group of glamorous women who are personally leading a revolution front the cover of a fashion mag? Never! But hopefully that will soon change.
All of these confident and beautiful women are still busy fighting for acceptance of the trans community in mainstream media. Consider this celebration of their fabulousness a very glam stepping stone in that endeavor!
