What To Watch on TV This Christmas

by Kelly Schremph

Tis the season… to watch TV! I’m just kidding. That’s basically every season in my opinion. However, Christmas in particular is a very special time of year in the television sector, given that there’s a ton of great stuff to watch pretty much 24/7. (The most wonderful time of year, indeed!) So when you’re done unwrapping gifts, spending time with the family, and stuffing yourself with delicious food until your heart’s content, take comfort in knowing that the merriment isn’t over just yet. Because, as it turns out, there is actually a ton of great TV to watch on Christmas Day. So put down that Benedict Cumberbatch coloring book and One Direction paraphernalia, and come partake in the joy of these festive favorites that can be found on a TV near you.

FYI, I’ve mapped out a schedule of what to watch and when to watch them so you don’t have to. You’re welcome. Consider this my special Christmas gift to you.

10 a.m.- 12 p.m.: Disney Parks Frozen Christmas Celebration (ABC)

This annual holiday extravaganza, which is featured throughout Disney’s Florida and California parks, is known to be quite the magical spectacle this time of year. Viewers can witness the vast array of floats and festivities as the happiest place on earth freezes over into a winter wonderland of Frozen fun. You won't want to let an opportunity like this go.

12-1 p.m.: Home Alone (ABC Family)

Granted, you'll be catching it around halfway through (unless you switch over from Disney at 11 a.m. instead of 12 p.m.). But either way it's totally worth a look. (The burglar antics don't take place until around that time anyway.) Yes, this holiday classic is the perfect way to help you dive into a day full of merriment. After all, nothing says “Merry Christmas” like child abandonment, right?

1-2 p.m.: Snack Break

Grab those stocking treats and go to town!

2-4 p.m.: A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (FXX)

Nothing screams holiday spirit more than a Harold and Kumar reunion. These lovable stoners are at it again with just as many crazy antics as ever before, guaranteed to help keep us merry all year round. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be grateful none of these shenanigans are actually happening to you.

4-5 p.m.: Christmas Dinner

Sure, it's a little earlier than usual, but trust me, you're going to need your strength for all the TV greatness that is to come.

5-7 p.m.: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (ABC Family)

A dysfunctional family whose Christmas plans turn into a series of epic disasters? Sign me up! Seriously, the Griswolds are awesome and always a good time to watch no matter the occasion. Though I have to admit, Christmas Vacation has always been a favorite of mine. 'Tis the season for stressful family functions, after all!

7-9 p.m.: Elf (ABC Family)

Umm, I think this one is pretty self explanatory. Whenever you get a chance to watch Elf, you take it. That's just smart decision making, my friends.

9-10 p.m.: Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas (NBC)

Now that you're fully immersed in the Elf frame of mind, why not head over to NBC and check out their special musical version of Buddy's holiday adventure. Blending elements of both the film and Broadway musical, this hour-long program will keep you smiling from ear to ear.
