11 Reasons Ariana Grande & Madonna Should Be Best Friends

I was floored when I saw Madonna and Ariana Grande tweeting back and forth in my Twitter timeline. Holy randomness. I totally support this since I stan hard for them both, but I never saw it coming. On top of that, Madonna has claimed to be far removed from television and the mainstream media, so I just assumed that she thought Ariana Grande was a Starbucks latte. Now that I see them becoming Twitter friends, I think they should move this interaction from the social media timeline to real life. I know it sounds a strange, but hear me out. It could totally work. Here's 11 reasons why Madonna and Ariana Grande should be best friends.

They Have Both Been Shaded by Mariah Carey

When people dubbed Grande a ”young Mariah Carey,” Mimi did not take kindly to the comparison. She retorted with, ”First of all, I’m still young because I discount numbers. Numerically speaking, I stopped counting at 17. I wish everybody the best of luck and if this is the career path they choose, hopefully they can achieve.” That’s pretty cold.

As for Madonna, Carey has been throwing shade at the pop icon since 1995 when she said she "hadn’t really paid attention to Madonna since seventh or eighth grade when she used to be popular.” Used to be popular? Please. Madonna has always been popular.

They Have Been the Subject of Diva Rumors

Both Madonna and Ariana Grande have been described as demanding divas. As a fan of both artists, I feel like they do not reach extremes that have been described. However, I would not be shocked to find that two of the world’s biggest pop stars make special requests every now and then.

They Are Fans of Each Other

As evidenced by the Twitter fest between the artists, they are clearly fans of each other. Madonna tweeted,” @arianagrande You’ve been such a good girl this year I wanted to give you something special,” after Grande tweeted about enjoying her new music. In response, Grande tweeted, "If you’re wondering if i’m dying / my heart is jumping out of my chest i am / it is.” If they both love each other’s work so much, then they need to collaborate. It would be perfect.

They Have Both Rebelled Against Catholicism

Both singers have been very vocal about their opinions on the Catholic church. Grande said, “[The church] said Spongebob Squarepants is gay and he’s a sinner and he should burn in hell. And Harry Potter was a sin. And working women. I was like 'Enough! First the gays, then Spongebob and now Harry Potter? Get out my house!' I was not having it. And the working woman thing? It was a moment for me. I needed something else to believe in."

And even with the name “Madonna,” the pop icon has turned against Catholicism several times. One of her biggest singles is called "Like a Prayer,” which had a controversial video, and she famously nailed herself to a cross during her Confessions concert tour. The list goes on, but the point is that the two have both rebelled against a similar background.

Madonna Can Teach Ariana Grande How to Reinvent Her Image

Madonna is the queen of reinvention. She is famous for having different looks and sounds for each of her musical endeavors. Grande is known for the same hairstyle and her pop vocals. If she wants to take her career to the next level, she should take a page from Madonna’s book.

Ariana Can Help Madonna Step up Her Social Media Game

Grande corresponds with her fans on Twitter and Instagram almost every day. Madonna has decades of loyal fans who would love to hear more from her. Grande should sit her down and show her how pop stars effectively use social media.

Madonna Can Pass down the Pop Music Torch (Again)

I feel like Madonna passed down the pop torch to Britney Spears with that infamous VMAs kiss, but Madonna has never left. She should do something to give Ariana Grande her blessing as a bona fide pop princess. A duet? Yes, I think so.

They Get Flack for Their Wardrobes

If you got it, flaunt it. Personally, I love the way both of these women dress. They are pop stars who are paid to entertain us. Do you really expect either of them to wear a t-shirt and jeans all the time? What is entertaining about that? Nothing. Bette Middler hated on Grande’s clothes recently, and Madonna has been a criticized for her fashion for decades.

They Practice Kabbalah

We all know that Madonna is very loyal to Kabbalah, but I bet a lot of people did not know that Ariana Grande also practices the religion. Grande once said, “When my brother was told that God didn’t love him, I was like, 'Okay, that’s not cool.' They were building a Kabbalah centre in Florida so we both checked it out and really had a connection with it."

They Support the Gay Community

Both stars have openly gay brothers and are very supportive of the LGBT community, and as a result they have very loyal gay fan bases.

They Are Philanthropic

Both stars love to give back their time and money to several philanthropic causes. Madonna is highly active with charities including UNICEF, Amnesty International, and Raising Malawi. Ariana Grande has lent her time to help with causes including PETA, Stand Up to Cancer, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
