Want More Kate Walsh in 'Fargo'? Too Bad

by Mallory Carra

Don't cry for Kate Walsh. Although her NBC sitcom Bad Judge got canceled, the actress is bouncing back just fine. She has a bunch of upcoming movies to be released in theaters in the next year. Walsh also had a small, but memorable role in FX's Fargo . The Emmy-winning hit series found Walsh playing as Gina Hess, a sexy widow who tries to get her way with mild-mannered insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (played by Martin Freeman). But now that her Bad Judge is out of court permanently, I have to ask: will Kate Walsh return to Fargo for Season 2?

It's looking fairly like a big "no" for Walsh (after all, Fargo's creator essentially said no actors would return for Season 2) though there's a chance her character will show up. Fargo's second season will take place in 1979 and introduce a young Lou Solverson (Officer Molly Solverson's dad) as well as a very young Molly and Mama Solverson. Fargo creator and executive producer Noah Hawley explained the Fargo Season 2 concept to Zap2It:

I like the idea that somewhere out there is a big, leather-bound book that's the history of true crime in the Midwest, and the movie was Chapter 4, Season 1 was Chapter 9 and this is Chapter 2 ... You can turn the pages of this book, and you just find this collection of stories. ... But I like the idea that these things are connected somehow, whether it's linearly or literally or thematically.

It's totally possible that a young Gina will show up in Season 2, right?

But even without Fargo, Walsh will be fine. She's got a healthy slate of projects coming down the pipeline:

Walsh plays a character named Morell in Dermamorphia, which is based on the novel of the same name by Craig Clevenger. The story follows a man named Eric (played by Joseph Morgan) who wakes up in jail and with no recollection of his life. He only remembers one thing: The name Desiree.

The movie premiered in June at the East End Film Festival and also stars Ron Perlman and Walton Goggins.

In this indie drama, Walsh plays single mom Bethley, the older sister of former fighter named Vian (played by Sean Bean) who finds forgiveness through his 11-year old nephew, Jimmy. Bethley is a religious woman and lets Vian live in her garage. Eva Longoria plays Vian's love interest Jolene, a mortgage broker.

Writer and director Rustam Branaman described the film to The Hollywood Reporter:

[ Any Day ] is a story that is very close to my heart, filled with themes that fascinate me: transformation in one's life, the possibility of something that goes beyond the material realm, the weaving of love and forgiveness, while maintaining the deep sense of unpredictable irony that exists with all humans.

It seems like a great project for Walsh to continue to shine.

Just Before I Go

Walsh has a role in this film, which is the feature directorial debut by actress Courteney Cox. Just Before I Go stars American Pie's Seann William Scott as a Ted Morgan, a man returns home to tie up loose ends before committing suicide. The movie premiered in October at the Bel-Air Film Festival in Los Angeles and also stars Olivia Thirlby, Elisha Cuthbert, and Cox's ex-husband David Arquette.
