New 'Crimson Peak' Photos Are Perfectly Creepy

by Loretta Donelan

Crimson Peak is the long-awaited Guillermo del Toro gothic horror movie. It's received a lot of hype, in part because it's been a work-in-progress for so long, and also because of its cast of Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam. Also, it just looks amazing.

To whet our appetites, Empire Magazine has released some beautiful images from the upcoming film, featuring Hiddleston, Wasikowska, and Chastain looking mysterious in full gothic attire. Perhaps even more fascinating is the backdrop, the haunted mansion that serves as the setting for the film. In Crimson Peak, Wasikowska plays a writer who moves into a 19th century English mansion, only to find out that her husband (played by Hiddleston) and the house are far darker than they first appeared.

There's still a good amount of time to go before the film is released; October 16th is the official release date, though I'm sure this is subject to change. The film has undergone a lot of changes over a long period of time; it was originally dreamed up by del Toro in 2006 and at one point starred Emma Stone and Benedict Cumberbatch. Del Toro has committed to making the film a throwback to grand horror movies like The Shining and The Omen, telling Deadline that he wants "a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules." These pics show that he's definitely on the right track.
