Matthew McConaughey Loses the Globe

by Anna Klassen

Last year, the actor lost 47 pounds for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, but the dramatic physical change paid off with more than one accolade, as the actor took home Best Actor awards at both the Oscars and The Golden Globes in 2014 (as well as awards at half a dozen other ceremonies). In 2015, Matthew McConaughey is nominated for his role in True Detective, HBO's gritty crime drama which he starred along side Woody Harrelson. And to no everyone's surprise McConaughey lost the award, being beat by Billy Bob Thorton.

But this isn't the first time the actor, who was once a staple of popcorn romcoms everywhere, has been nominated for his role as Rust Cohle. Last year he took home a TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Drama. And in case you missed the HBO series, you probably caught Mr. "Alright alright alright" on the IMAX big screen opposite Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan's space epic Interstellar. Others nominated in the category include: Martin Freeman, Woody Harrelson (Also nominated for True Detective) and Mark Ruffalo.

It's clear that 2015 will be a big year for McConaughey, and though he's stepped down from his True Detective role, he's already got a few films under his belt for 2015, and is currently filming Kubo and the Two Strings.
