Speidi Gave Relationship Advice with Patti Stanger

by Kayla Hawkins

You wouldn't be crazy to think it was Jan. 15, 2007 today — first, the Oscar nominations horrified everyone, then, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag appeared on The Millionaire Matchmaker , there to help Spencer's sister, Stephanie Pratt, who you may also remember from The Hills, find a serious date prospect. Patti, in this celebrity-speckled season, was laid back enough to welcome Spencer and Heidi into the casting call and helped her settle on Trevor, a

Only people who are capable of being nostalgic about literally everything will be able to look back at Speidi's relationship fondly. During the mid-2000s, they represented everything gross, fake, and pathetic about reality TV: they got together on a reality show, exploited their relationship for money (and ratings), dressed, sounded, acted, and looked like characters in an SNL "Californians" sketch. But then, the unthinkable happened: they managed to stick it out and are still together, almost ten years later. And they're an inspiration to Stephanie, who cites their relationship as what she's looking for. I'll say this: Spencer and Heidi are definitely soulmates. You can't find two people who are better matched than they are.

Actually, redeeming bad 2000s reputations were something of a theme tonight. Patti took on Stephanie, who worried about having remaining bad reality TV juju, and Kari Whitman, a former Playboy Playmate, who was suffering from an inability to break away from her past relationships. And their relationships weren't good, either — they didn't work out because the two just weren't compatible, they were trying to control her, or something crazy, like they lived in two different cities. Because that's going to work.

Both dates were pretty successful, though it remains to be seen if they'll end up together in the long run — it's not easy to keep a celebrity couple together.

The biggest thing I took away from this episode, though, wasn't Patti's advice about cutting out your exes (she was painting with a broad brush) or how cute Trevor was (pretty cute, for a MM date). It was how love sometimes shows up in surprising places.

And it's possible for two people to be in love, kinda sweet, and still be huge tools.
