Elizabeth Olsen & Boyd Holbrook End Engagement After 3 Years, But Is A Reunion In Their Future?

Elizabeth Olsen is, to me, like giving your parents a Christmas list and getting an extra box under the tree that you weren't expecting. We all grew up to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen teaching us life lessons, but, when we outgrew their videos long after they stopped making them, the world gave us Elizabeth Olsen of Martha Marcy May Marlene fame. However, she might have stepped out of her older sisters' shadow, but that doesn't mean she can't have some bad news from time to time. Sadly, Elizabeth has broken off her engagement to Boyd Holbrook (model, actor, Tumblr's choice for an older Draco Malfoy) after three years of happiness.

According to US Weekly, a source confirmed this news after Olsen was photographed shopping for food without her engagement ring on — because you know how that's a clear indication that your romantic life is in upheaval and nothing will ever be the same again. Of course, Holbrook was last seen out without Olsen as well, allegedly "flirting with a blonde woman who coincidentally resembled his love of three years" at a party — which, I mean, that just sounds weird to me. If it's true that the pair have broken off their engagement, then Holbrook either has a very specific type or he's not quite over Olsen yet.

As for Olsen, well, shopping at a farmer's market by herself isn't really a positive or a negative experience, so it's hard to know how she's handling the news. Personally, I already want to cover my ears and scream, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU," until Olsen or Holbrook speak up to deny that they aren't still engaged. How am I supposed to concentrate on Olsen as Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron if I'm busy sobbing into Kleenex over her relationship status?

Then again, it's honestly not as though Olsen needs a man in order to be fulfilled as a person, so, by the time Age of Ultron comes out, she might have settled comfortably back into being single — no sobbing from me required. It's just the transition period that always feels so painful, from loving a celebrity couple to acknowledging that they're over. And, even worse, US Weekly made no mention of the split between Olsen and Holbrook being amicable, so we might not see them hanging out together again for a while. So much for that double wedding with Mary-Kate.
