Amal's Newest Case Is A HUGE Deal

by Arielle Dachille

Welp, this is pretty much the most impressive thing ever. Because she is an unstoppable machine of human rights justice, Amal Clooney is representing Armenia in a trial related to the country's genocide. You can stop talking about her white gloves from the Golden Globes, already.

As People reports, Clooney will serve as legal counsel for Armenia on a trial before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) concerning the nearly century-old event. To this day, Turkey reportedly claims that only 600,000 Armenians were killed in the event that lasted from 1915-1923, rather than the estimated 1.5 million. According to The Telegraph, Clooney will argue on behalf of Armenia that the court's decision to pardon Doğu Perinçek was an affront to the rights of the Armenians. Perinçek is the chairman of the Turkish Worker's Party who was found guilty of denying the Armenian Genocide in 2007, but the decision was overturned because the ECHR ruled that the decision violated his rights of free speech.

Clooney will reportedly try to prove that this ruling puts the entire existence of the Armenian Genocide into question. Furthermore, she will supposedly maintain that the ruling was hypocritical due to the past violations of freedom of expressions committed by the Turkish government. I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like this may very well be a landmark trial with the power to set an influential precedent in this particular court. Can we just give her all of the lifetime achievement awards??

But even when she is literally changing the course of history, people are still gonna talk about her outfits. According to E! News, a Telegraph reporter jokingly asked who she was wearing as she walked into trial on Wednesday morning. She reportedly laughed and pointed to her barrister's robes and replied "Ede & Ravenscroft" — the brand of her uniform. That's what they call an Amal burn, suckazzzz!!
