There are a lot of amazingly talented designers out there (as NYFW so far will no doubt attest), but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Carolina Herrera. She really knows how to craft a true showstopper, and there's always something so pretty about her gowns. Sometimes, fashion is about shock value, but with Herrera's designs, it's more about just plain looking good — and a lot of times in her book, looking good includes amazingly eye-catching prints, even more eye-catching silhouettes, and lots of sparklies. That said, I'm hoping that a lot of stars choose to wear her for the Academy Awards and all the ensuing after parties, because Carolina Herrera Oscar gowns never fail to impress.

I mean, think about it: Lucy Liu's utterly gorgeous Golden Globes dress (pictured above), the absolute stunner Emmy Rossum wore that kind of won the 2014 Met Gala, last year's geometric NYFW runway show... those are some mega dresses, so really, can you think of anyone better to wear to some of the biggest red carpets and parties of the year? With that in mind, here are a few new dresses from Herrera's latest runway presentation that would be absolutely perfect for the Oscars:

1. This Ruffled Number

Very Cinderella, in the best way possible.

2. This Printed Gown

Karlie Kloss workin' it, as per usual.

3. This Sequined Dress

The CFDA knows what's up.

4. This Embellished Showstopper

More water-themed goodness.

5. This Houndstooth Triumph

Spectacular, absolutely spectacular.

6. This Brocade Marvel

Come on, someone has to wear this one to something.
