Dascha Polanco Was The Inspo You Needed This Week

by Jodie Layne

Whether you needed some style inspiration, were feeling down about your body or just wanted to gaze at one of the most gorgeous women around — Orange is the New Black actress, and total babe, Dashca Polanco is your girl. She has been absolutely slaying this week on red carpets, runways and on the internet. So if this is all any indication of what we can expect from Polanco in 2015, get excited: She's going full-on style icon and body positivity advocate and I love it. Polanco's big week started with some strutting down the catwalk, along with co-star Laverne Cox, at the Go Red For Women Fashion Show. The actress looked totally stunning and confident in the mermaid-style Michael Costello gown — but absolutely zero surprise there!

The same day, Cosmopolitan dropped a short interview with Polanco about body image for Sophie Simmons' new interview series No Filter. That title is definitely appropriate because Polanco opens up candidly about some intimate topics: How she felt seeing her body on TV for the first time, how she's trying to positively affect her daughter's body image, not fitting into sample sizes (and her hatred of that term), having sex with the lights on, and a past abusive relationship. "Love is not control," she says in the video. This isn't the first time she's spoken out about body image — last summer she even discussed how her own negative body image almost prevented her from becoming an actress. I, for one, am grateful that Polanco took that leap and that she's so honest about what it took to get to this place of acceptance.

She rounded out her week by looking completely amazing in an all-white look at the Houghton NYC show at Milk Studios for New York Fashion Week. I mean, of course she did. Clad in Houghton and Roberto Coin, she paired an airy white maxi and blouse with a furry white coat and wide-brimmed, floppy white hat. I think she may have actually nailed the transitional season style with this combination of springy shapes and textures with bright winter white and a warm coat. See what I mean when I said she was becoming a fashion icon? Check out the details of her outfit below:

Let's hope that this is all indicative that we're about to get a lot more Dascha in our lives in 2015.
