'Last Week Tonight' Fans, Good News

by Marenah Dobin

Rejoice, fans! It is officially official: You will get to see more of John Oliver. The HBO series Last Week Tonight With John Oliver just got renewed for season 3 and 4 — and season 2? Not even finished yet. I think in the entertainment world, that is what we call a total win? I mean, not only does this mean two more years of John Oliver on television and, thus, in our lives, but for two 35-episode seasons as well! That's a pretty heavy episode count for a cable TV show, and it's absolutely worth it.

In an official press release, Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, expressed his pride in the show: "We are incredibly proud to have John as part of the HBO family. His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself.”

If you're not already watching, you should be. The show just returned for its second season on February 8, 2015, making it officially the "only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night." An that's a pretty big deal, especially considering that Jon Stewart on The Daily Show will soon be out of our lives.

Personal note to John Oliver: You are now our sole hope in getting through the 2016 presidential elections.
