'Orange is the New Black' Does 'Scandal'

by Alanna Bennett

Ever doubt that the women of Orange Is the New Black are awesome? Perhaps even... gladiators? Well, add "acting out scenes from Scandal" to your list of fantasy sleepover activities for your hanging-out time with them, because Danielle Brooks and Uzo Aduba of Orange Is the New Black recently reenacted a scene from Scandal for Instagram, and it was pretty great.

The scene in question was (spoiler alert?) one from Scandal's recent Season 3 premiere, in which Olivia Pope's father both nails an important racial issue on the head and shows his colors as very emotionally berating of his daughter.

Orange Is the New Black is another show in which race plays a huge factor — it's more women of color being heavily featured in one place than probably anywhere else on television, for one, and it's not even on a traditional television channel, it's on Netflix — so it seems appropriate that this was the scene Brooks (who plays Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson on the show) and Aduba (Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren) would choose to reenact. The former plays Olivia Pope herself, the latter her intimidating father.

Hilarious, relevant, and racially interesting — kind of like Orange Is the New Black itself.

The quote in question comes in at about 1:10.
