Sad news: after the bomb dropped a few days ago that Karlie Kloss is hanging up her wings after less than two years as an Angel, word got out that Doutzen Kroes is leaving Victoria's Secret, too — actually, she already did. The Dutch beauty quietly snuck out of her contract at the end of last year. As a VS fashion show aficionado and someone who’s a little too obsessed with model happenings, I’m shocked that I’m just now hearing about this.

“Doutzen had a lucrative opportunity in Europe and it would have conflicted with her VS obligations,” said Ed Razek, the chief marketing officer of the lingerie giant, on Instagram. “So, at her agencies [sic] request, we released her from contract. There was no conflict. No animosity. None of the nonsense I've read on Instagram. She had a great business opportunity, and I wanted to be fair to someone I adore and respect.”

Adding to the tribute, Razek said, “I honestly believe Doutzen is one of the most stunningly beautiful people in the world. And I always will.” We’re definitely in agreement there: since joining Victoria’s Secret in 2008, Doutzen’s brought a new element of fresh, natural beauty to their campaigns, which I’ll miss.

With Doutzen’s departure, I have questions. What’s the business opportunity? Is it going to be like Miranda Kerr and Kora Organics' deal? And, most importantly, are there new Angels on the way to replace her and Karlie Kloss? (Please, please be Gigi Hadid...)
