The wait is finally over: On Monday, Carly Rae Jepsen premiered her new single, "I Really Like You," and it's three and a half minutes of bubblegum pop bliss. (I was going to make a joke about how I really, really, really, really, really, really like it, but that just seemed a bit too obvious, you know?) Now that we've heard the 29-year-old Canadian-born singer's latest offering, we must address the elephant in the room: Did she outdo herself? Is "I Really Like You" even catchier than "Call Me Maybe"??
For me personally, no, it isn't... but that doesn't mean it isn't catchy! Make no mistake: "I Really Like You" is certainly the catchiest song I've heard this year — I just think "Call Me Maybe" is still in a class of its own. The fact of the matter is, Jepsen may never record another track that's as infectious as "Call Me Maybe" — but "I Really Like You" definitely comes close. The '80s-tinged single's lyrics perfectly describe the intoxicating, exhilarating, and sometimes giggly feelings that overcome you when you're falling in like with someone — and that makes it pretty hard to resist.
