She's come along way since Lizzie McGuire. Hilary Duff spoke to Cosmo about her marriage to Mike Comrie, and her maturing thoughts on love: "I don't know if people are meant to be together forever. Things happen over a long relationship that you can't always fight. A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness," she says. The interview comes on the heels of Duff filing to divorce from her husband, which whom she has a two-year-old child, Luca.
But before she was married, and before she was a mother, Hilary Duff was expressing her musings on love, sex, and the opposite sex through song. Since her days as a pubescent teen on Lizzie McGuire to her films like A Cinderella Story and up until present day, Duff has released albums that externalize her emotions, and with it — ours. So perhaps Duff should take a look back at her own musical love advice, found in the pop hits of her most tried and true tunes, from "Come Clean" to "Our Lips Are Sealed."
Thank you... you made my mind up for me
When you started to ignore me
Do you see a single tear
It isn't gonna happen here
If you can't do the math
Then get out of the equation
I am calling you back
This is star 69
Things are different now when I walk by
You start to sweat and you don't know why
And I try to catch your eye
Sometimes it's so hard to see
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine,
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life,
And start to try, cause it's your time,
Time to fly.
"Do You Want Me"
I got scars on my heart and they won't go away
Looking for someone to take them from me
Everybody knows I'm a little insane
Do you want me?
The way you let your feelings slip
But they're never what you feel
Oh so fake but completely real
Everyone knows that I'm ten feet under
Till you come along and brighten my day
Everyone knows that you kill the thunder
The roaring in my brain
Nobody believes me when I tell them that you're out of your mind.
Nobody believes me when I tell them that there's so much you hide.
You treat me like a queen when we go out,
wanna show everyone what our love's about.
All wrapped up in me whenever there is a crowd,
But when no ones around
"Between You and Me"
We're both apart of the same story
Not on the same page
And I see you standing there
With that dirty little stare
Well it freaks me out inside
So maybe you should just beware
I try to loose you in my car but you won't go away,
Come on buddy don't you think you've overstayed your stay?
Don't you have better things to do with your life
Then hang around and stare at me and complicate mine?
