Harrison Ford Injured In Plane Crash

by Kaitlin Reilly

This is horrifying: On Thursday Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford was involved in a plane crash that left him critically injured. According to reports, the 72-year-old actor — an experienced pilot — landed on the Penmar golf course in Venice, Calif., after an alleged malfunction of the plane. Ford supposedly walked away from the crash, but was transferred to the hospital due to head injuries sustained from the incident. Update: The Los Angeles Fire Department says Ford suffered "basically some moderate trauma." Ford's son Ben Ford tweeted: "At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man."

The Air Force One actor has been licensed to fly a plane for over 20 years, and Ford considers flying a passion of his. The actor has been candid about his love of his uncommon hobby, and even owns a private plane, though it is unclear at this time whether that is the plane he was flying when he crashed onto the golf course.

This isn't the first time that Ford has been involved in an aircraft accident. In 1999 the actor was on a training flight in a Bell 206 helicopter with a pilot. During some practice autorotations, the pilot was forced to make an emergency stop into a riverbed below. According to reports, the helicopter was significantly damaged, but both Ford and the pilot walked away from the crash.

Less than a year later, Ford was involved in a second aircraft accident. Ford, who also had a passenger in the plane at that time, had a rocky landing coming into the runway, which caused damage to the wings of the private plane. Neither Ford nor his passenger were hurt.
