Bristol Palin Is Engaged

by Loretta Donelan

Congrats are in order! According to reports, Bristol Palin is officially engaged. The 24-year-old Palin — who is, of course, the daughter to former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin — announced her engagement to 26-year-old Dakota Meyer in a sweet Instagram post on Saturday, following a post from Meyer himself on his Instagram: The two professed that they were the "luckiest girl and guy in the world," respectively, and Bristol also posted a picture of her diamond engagement ring.

"I'm definitely the luckiest guy ever to be able to spend the rest of my life with @bsmp2 #shesaidyes," wrote Meyer. In her post, Palin agreed: "Truly the luckiest girl in the world, cannot wait to marry this man!!!!"

Neither Palin nor Meyer have previously been married (however, Palin was engaged to Levi Johnston, the father of her 6-year-old son Tripp, but the couple ended their engagement in 2009), and it hasn't been publicly reported that the couple were dating. Meyer, though, has previously appeared as a special guest on Amazing America With Sarah Palin , Palin's show on the Sportsman Channel.

While both Palin women had posted pictures with the war hero, the relationship seemed more professional than personal in the past — much in contrast to Saturday's mushy posts:

So, who is Palin's new fiancé? Meyer was a Marine in the War in Afghanistan, and he's the second youngest Medal of Honor recipient currently alive. The Kentucky native received the honor for his heroic actions in the Battle of Ganjgal in 2009. Realizing that his compatriots were missing after an ambush, he ventured into dangerous enemy territory to rescue them. According to Meyer's account, he found them dead, but was able to recover their bodies and help save many more Marines and soldiers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama in 2011. After the war, he suffered from PTSD and wrote a book about the battle.

No word yet on when the couple plans to tie the knot. Congratulations to the couple!
