Could A Spice Girls Reunion Be In The Works?

by Kaitlin Reilly

The pop world was saddened Wednesday by the news that Zayn Malik has quit One Direction, but while today's biggest boy band might be hurting, this former girl group could be on the rise again — at least according to one member. According to Emma Bunton (aka Baby Spice), a Spice Girls reunion could happen for the 20-year anniversary of the band's hit single, "Wannabe." I know we were all hurting over Zayn, but this makes things are least a little better! As Bunton told Now Magazine:

We love each other and we love performing together... It's just when the timing is right because we all have our own careers now and we have families, it's just about getting five schedules together and that's all it is.

So that's awesome, right? A Spice Girls reunion is just a matter of getting the schedules of five celebrities on track! They did it for years when they were performing together, so why not now?

Unfortunately, it's not all good news. While there's nothing that I would love more than a Spice Girls reunion, it doesn't seem Victoria Beckham isn't too keen on the idea — which would completely nullify Bunton's claims. In a previous interview, the former Posh Spice said she wouldn't reunite again with the girls following the group's performance at the Olympics. As she told Vanity Fair in 2014:

I won't ever do it again. Doing the Olympics was an incredible honour. I was so proud to do it... That was a perfect time to say, "That's great. Thank you to everybody, but no more." Sometimes you've got to know when it's time to leave the party...

Personally, I could dance at a Spice Girls party all night, but it seems that Beckham doesn't feel the same way — meaning that Bunton's quote could just end up being wishful thinking. Of course, things change, but we've had enough pain for one day — it's best not to get our hopes up that the Spice Girls are reuniting again, at least for now. It's disappointing news, but hey, you never know what could cause someone to change her mind.

Like, say, another viewing of Spice World? It's just a thought.
