Groovy 'Mad Men'-inspired Beauty Looks To Rock Now

by Jessica Willingham

The seventh and final season of Mad Men is upon us, and we are at the dawn of a new decade: the swingin' '70s, baby. We've watched the series' leading ladies transform over the years, but this season, they're adopting new and exciting beauty looks. We already loved the '70s fashion, and can't wait for the fringe this fall, but what we're most excited about is the makeup. Luckily, you don't need to be an actress to achieve the Mad Men looks.

Peggy, Betty, Joan, and Megan are looking decidedly fresher in this more freeing decade. Most (with the exception of Peggy) are shedding powerful red lips for lighter corals. It is the decade of hair everywhere, so bold brows are in full effect. Blushes are less grandma-rouge and a little younger looking, with peach undertones that compliment impeccable housewife complexions. And it wouldn't be the '70s without an out-to-there winged cat eye, in the blackest of black, please.

Below are some products you can buy right now to channel your inner 1970s version of peace-loving Megan or independent Joan. You can skip the belly chains and platform heels, though. Unless that's your thing, to which I say "get it, girl."

Stay groovy.

The Joan

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in Tequila Sunrise

Anything alcohol-related is pretty on point for Joan and the Mad Men ladies.

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in Tequila Sunrise, $19.00, gerardcosmetics.com

The Betty

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

I love Betty's softer, lighter look for the new season. Peachy-pink based blushes will give you her natural flush.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso, $8.49, milanicosmetics.com

The Sally

Chantecaille Full Brow Perfecting Gel

Hair was wild in the '70s and brows were unkempt, like Sally's gorgeous "on fleek" brows. Of course, the unkempt look is always preferable to letting them go wild.

Chantecaille Full Brow Perfecting Gel, $40.00, chantecaille.com

The Megan

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Medium Deep

The secret to getting Megan's perfectly chiseled cheekbones is to use a cool tone bronzer. I love this product, plus it smells like chocolate.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Medium, $30.00, toofaced.com

L'Oreal The Infallible Blackbuster Liquid Liner

Megan's belly chains come with some heavy doses of cat eye this season. The look is so classically '70s, but timeless. Learning how to perfect your cat eye is easier with a pen, like this one.
