Antonio Banderas Is Studying Fashion Design

by Marc Cuenco

He's already charmed some of the most beautiful women onscreen and off, but now this renowned actor hopes to dress them one day. Antonio Banderas wants to be a fashion designer, according to his recent appearance on the British talk show Loose Women. The Spanish hunk even moved to London to study fashion design at the famed Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, where Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Zac Posen attended. Uhm, talk about big shoes to fill.

“It’s something that has been on my mind for a long time and probably one of the best schools in the world is here...and so I am going to start studying with them,” Banderas said. The bilingual actor is best known for starring in blockbusters such as Desperado, Evita, and The Mask of Zorro, as well as several Spanish-language films by Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodóvar. He also voices the suave character Puss in Boots in the popular Shrek franchise.

Banderas — who announced his divorce with Melanie Griffith last June — shared that even his years of experience in front of the camera didn't prepare him for his new life as a fashion student.

“It makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality,” he said. Banderas certainly isn't the first celebrity to try his hand in designing clothes, but unlike his successful predecessors Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson, he hasn't turned his back on his original career. “Of course I won’t stop my professional life," Banderas added. "I’ll continue acting, directing, but this is a new thing."

We can't wait to see what Banderas has up his sleeves!
