Long-Lost Siblings Reunited... On Tinder?

by Eliza Castile

If you and your significant other are desperately trying to come up with a meet-cute to cover up how you met online, just remember it can always get worse. You could be Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts, the long-lost siblings who were reunited over Tinder. Explaining that one at family reunions is going to be a doozy, isn't it?The brother and sister were separated in 1999 when their parents got divorced, Jezebel reports. Egbert stayed with their mother in the Netherlands, while de Vries and his twin, Maarten, moved to Belgium with their father, and the three siblings soon lost contact with one another. Although de Vries told Mic that he tried to search for Egbert a few years ago, the siblings remained separated until de Vries moved back to the Netherlands for school and signed up for Tinder, like any other self-respecting young adult. He came upon Egbert's profile by chance, they both happened to swipe right, and boom! The premise for a wacky comedy of errors starring John Krasinski and Anna Kendrick was born. De Vries and Egbert, however were still in the dark."The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea," he told Mic. "

In our first conversation, I was actually flirting with her, so the conversation was very superficial." Because Egbert actually took the time to respond, I think it's safe to assume he didn't go for the old Tinder standby of "hey ;)."

"I started to get some clues and figured she might actually be my sister," de Vries said. Understandably, this weirded him out a little, but after a few days he contacted her again to compare notes. "The fact that we had a lost sister and she had lost her twin brothers did give her suspicion as well," he added. The two met up a week later, and there was no doubt in either sibling's mind that they were related. "When I saw him, it was suddenly very clear," Egberts, now 22, toldDatingsite Kiezen. "It was so special to see my own blood brother again after 16 years."

Soon after, a writer for Datingsite Kiezen caught wind of the story and rounded up the siblings, including Erik's twin Maarten, for their first family portrait in 16 years. Say it with me now: awwww.

Well, until you get yet another unsolicited dick pic, and then you're reminded why you'd rather be alone forever.
