Kindle MatchBook Goes Live

Hey, re-readers: Amazon's Kindle MatchBook program, which allows Amazon customers to buy electronic editions of previously purchased books at discounted prices, is live today.

The initiative offers matches for 70,000 titles — more than seven times the number Amazon predicted would be available in its original announcement. So, that's pretty good news. Any book purchased as far back as 1995 may be eligible for an e-book match.

The outstanding question is how many customers will participate in this program. I can't see myself springing for a cheap version of The Odyssey (trans. Richmond Lattimore) nor a book I read for a Women and Gender Studies course, as tempting as they both sound. But Amazon will add to its list of MatchBook titles, so I'll be checking back.
