Vanessa Opens Up About The LGBT Community

She'll always be remembered as Gabriella from High School Musical, a role through which she inspired many teens, but now Vanessa Hudgens is inspiring others by supporting the LGBT community. While chatting with GLAAD, the actress opened up about why she doesn't define anyone based on their sexuality and how her role as the titular character in Broadway's Gigi can teach others to love themselves and live their lives how they see fit.

Hudgens doesn't see herself as a close-minded individual, which is why she accepts everyone for exactly who they are. She said,

People can be very closed minded and I think it's not right. I don't think it's fair. I think it's important for us to stand up for people and to have each other's back, and to be involved with the gay community and support the community. I'm a very open person. Love comes first for me. I don't see people as gay or straight. I see you as good person and not good person. Like, if you're a good person, I will love you. It does not matter what you are.

One of the reasons Hudgens loves being on Broadway is because her character is "such a strong, independent, powerful, young woman." She believes everyone needs to create their own future, just like Gigi, and never let anyone "plan your life for you." "It's just a nice lovely little reminder of how you are in control of your future and your happiness no matter what anyone else might think," Hudgens said of her role.

If fans take anything from what Hudgens, it's that you should love yourself, not let anyone tell you how to live your life, and never let anyone define who you are. Those, my friends, are some truly inspiring words brought to you by the former Disney Channel star.
