Jessie J's New 'Pitch Perfect 2' Song Is Here

Calling all Pitch Perfect fans: Jessie J's Pitch Perfect 2 song, "Flashlight," has arrived and it's an uplifting stadium anthem that'll have you waving your iPhone in the air and singing along at the top of your lungs in no time (even if you're just sitting in your bedroom on your laptop). Jessie J's "Flashlight" lyrics (which were co-written by Sia Furler and Sam Smith) are dedicated to the people who brighten our paths and guide us through the dark times in life — just like flashlights. Awww. Isn't that sweet?

Look, I realize how sappy that description sounds, but believe it or not, "Flashlight" totally works (thanks in large part to Jessie's earnest and refreshingly restrained vocal delivery). Yes, the song's a bit syrupy, but Pitch Perfect 2 is a feel-good comedy about the misadventures of a ragtag college a cappella group — not the next great American family drama starring Meryl Streep! I love that the soundtrack features some inspiring musical cheese. In fact, I'm even more excited to see the movie now! After all, a little cheese never hurt anybody.

On "Flashlight's" first verse, Jessie sings:

When tomorrow comes, I'll be on my own

Feeling frightened of the things that I don't know

When tomorrow comes, tomorrow comes, tomorrow comes

And though the road is long, I look up to the sky

And in the dark I found, I stop and I won't fly

The chorus soars in a way that only a chorus written by Sia truly can:

Will "Flashlight" follow in the footsteps of Anna Kendrick's catchy Pitch Perfect ditty "Cups" and become a mainstream radio hit? We'll just have to wait and see.
