The 3 Best Companies Making Movies Right Now

There are many movies out this summer bound to stir up mixed opinions —Man of Steel, for one, or Iron Man 3. Yet, I think practically everyone can agree that This is the End, Seth Rogen's stars-playing-themselves apocalypse comedy, is pretty damn great. It's no surprise: Mandate Pictures, the company behind the film, is known for making movies that don't suck. For more on Mandate, as well as two other production companies we love, read on. 3 Production Companies That Are Doing It Right

Mandate Pictures

Founded in 2003, Mandate Pictures has quickly become one of Hollywood's leading independent production companies. Name a funny, intelligent movie made in the last 10 years, and chances are Mandate was behind it. Releases include: 50/50, Juno, Young Adult, Whip It, Stranger Than Fiction, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and all three Harold and Kumar movies. [Image: Mandate]

The Weinstein Company

When Bob and Harvey Weinstein left Miramax to found their own company in 2005, they had no idea they'd be creating one of the industry's most respected enterprises. (Or did they?) Known for making smart, dark movies that clean up at the Oscars, TWC was the force behind The King's Speech, The Artist, Silver Linings Playbook, and Django Unchained. Impressive, but not as much as this: TWC is one of the only well-known production companies to produce a large amount of female-led movies. Blue Valentine, My Week With Marilyn, The Iron Lady, and Our Idiot Brother are only a few of the films on the long list. [Image: The Weinstein Company]

A24 Films

Founded just last year, A24 has wasted no time making its mark on Hollywood. With only five films to its name, the company seems to specialize in making honest, controversial films about teenagers. Credits include The Bling Ring, Ginger and Rosa, Spring Breakers, and The Spectacular Now.
