Check Out Charli XCX's New Song "Diamonds"

by Alex Kritselis

On Sunday evening, just a little over a week after the premiere of his fantastic Britney Spears collaboration, "Tom's Diner," legendary music producer Giorgio Moroder debuted another new song with Charli XCX called "Diamonds" — and it's positively delightful. "Diamonds" combines Moroder's immaculate, glistening dance production with Charli's stunning vocals and unique lyrics to create an irresistible modern love song you won't be able to take off repeat. Moroder has been on a roll lately! So far, everything the 75-year-old Italian disco pioneer has released from his upcoming new album, Déjà Vu , has been wonderful.

On "Diamond's" first verse and pre-chorus, the 22-year-old "Boom Clap" hit-maker sings:

Cut out with scissors made of starlight it is

All right 'cause you're glowing through the limelight now it's

Hold tight, we collide into the satellite

Hot right, yeah we're sleeping with the city tonight

This tastes like

We love like

"Diamond's" chorus reminds me quite a bit of the material on Charli's 2012 major label debut, True Romance:

Oh, my hands

Oh, my head

Oh, my chest

I'm dressed up like a girl's best friend

In my heart

In my room

In my bed

You're shining like you're one of them

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh, you're like

Diamonds

Déjà Vu is shaping up to be one of the best albums of the year! You can pre-order it on iTunes now. The track list also features collaborations with Sia Furler, Kylie Minogue, Mikky Ekko, Kelis, Foxes, Matthew Koma, and Marlene.
