Here's How To Get Chrissy's Met Gala Hairstyle

by Alexa Tucker

If there's one person who can completely own a red carpet with her hair, it's everyone's favorite swimsuit model. Especially when it comes to waves. Whether she's working them beach-ready or retro chic, she's the best-tressed person in the room. Tonight, Chrissy Teigen's Met Gala hairstyle involved voluptuous, bouncy waves that were almost curls. But no matter what you call them, one thing's for certain: we want.

Adorned with a few flowers to add some feminine drama, Chrissy's waves stood out against her simple but stunning black dress by St. John Knits and on-theme jade drop earrings. And even though her always flawless waves may seem like some sort of unfair beauty sorcery, there's actually some tricks of the trade behind them that you can use at home.

Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin styled Chrissy's hair for the Met Gala, and lucky for us, she's spilling some of her secrets. Sure, we can't have Chrissy's perfect husband John Legend, but getting close to her hairstyle is sort of a consolation prize. Here's how to get the look, according to Atkin:The night beforehand, give your locks a surge of moisture — she recommends MarulaOil Rare Oil Treatment and Rare Oil Intensive Masque, which are great for hydrating and making hair more manageable, she says.

1. While hair is still wet, create a deep side part and spritz with a texturizing spray, like Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray. Blow dry, adding volume at the crown of your head.

2. Wrap hair in a figure 8 shape around a large French hairpin, and go over it with a flat iron — Atkin used the Paul Mitchell Neuro Style. As you move down the sections, bevel the ends (essentially, subtly curl the ends in towards your face to soften the look.)

3. To add some volume, brush through horizontal sections up through mid-length, then use a smoothing cream like Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Hydrocream Whip to relax the top and sides of your hair. Tuck one side of your hair behind your ear.

4. If you really want the full Chrissy Teigen experience, pin some flowers behind your ear with bobby pins.

Even though most of us don't actually get to go to the Met Gala, this would be a great hairstyle for prom or even just a night out with your girls. We may not be able to have our girl Chrissy's whole life, but this brings us a little closer, right?
