Here's How To Dress Like Cookie Lyon In +Sizes

by Jodie Layne

The television show Empire has taken not only TV but also culture by storm, and from music to fashion, Empire has created a whole lifestyle around itself in the true tradition of a hip hop empire. The story of hip hop's fictional first family is filled with drama and glamour, and this is reflected nowhere better than the wardrobe of Cookie Lyon (played by Taraji P. Henson), the Lyon family's ruling figure. Cookie is a style icon at this point, thanks to costume designer Rita McGhee who told VH1 that her picks for Cookie's wardrobe came from a diverse group — from Balmain to Target.

At the beginning of the series, Cookie is released from jail and her style evolution upon her release is a beautiful thing to watch — almost as beautiful as the way she runs the world and holds her family down. Cookie's style is as glamorous and luxe as it is outrageous and bold. Her look demands power and authority while playing to her sensuality and femininity simultaneously. Her signatures are bright colors, big furs, gold, animal print, and luxurious fabrics — and she's not afraid of a bold shoe or accessory. Cookie will not be ignored, and her wardrobe makes that an impossible task anyway. Want to get her look? Check out my interpretation of two of her hottest and most iconic ensembles below:
