7 Times 'Mad Men' Star Christina Hendricks Shared Body Positive Wisdom & Made You Love Her Even More

Christina Hendricks is a powerhouse of a human being. In addition to giving life to Joan Harris, the Queen of bad b's on Mad Men, Christina Hendricks is a body-positive champion. There has been plenty of commentary on Hendricks' bodacious and voluptuous figure, a seeming anomaly for the stick-thin actress body mold. Throughout her time on Mad Men, she's said plenty of things that will inspire you to appreciate the skin you're in. Here are just a few of Christina Hendricks' body positive quotes that will endear you to her even further.

On Shaking What Her Mama Gave Her

Hendricks’ hourglass figure is a departure from the actress norm, but her confidence has never suffered because of it. “I guess my mom raised me right,” Hendricks told Health Magazine. “She was very celebratory of her body. I never heard her once say ‘I feel fat.’”

On Indulging

“Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy, I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous!” Hendricks said in the previously mentioned Health Magazine spread. “I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like ‘Oh, I look like a woman.’ And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, because I loved it.”

On Appreciating The Girls

“If there’s anything to be learned from me it’s that I’m learning to celebrate what I was born with, even though it’s sometimes been inconvenient,” Hendricks told the Daily Mail in 2012. “Having larger breasts has made it harder for me to shop throughout the years, but I’ve learnt to love it.”

On Loving Nudity

In 2012, Hendricks told Black Book magazine, “I’m a very comfortable naked person. Not in front of other people, but at home and in front of my husband [actor Geoffrey Arend]. I feel good not wearing clothes.”

On Vivienne Westwood's Pro-Lady Clothing

“As a woman with curves, I love that her clothes unapologetically celebrate women,” she told the Daily Mail.

On Dressing To Play Up Your Curves

In a 2009 interview with Marie Claire, she gave some sage advice to women dressing to highlight their curves: “Instead of trying to downplay your curves, find a designer or style that glorifies them… Once you find what looks best on you, stick with it.”

On Inspiring Others

In the same Marie Claire interview, Hendricks shared an anecdote about a fan approaching her to say how much Joan inspired her body confidence. “During the first season, a woman came up to me at dinner and said, ‘I just want to thank you — watching you has made me proud of my body.’ I thought, What an amazing thing for someone to say! To make anyone feel good about themselves makes me feel good.”
