Zooey Deschanel Covers 'Cosmopolitan,' Is Almost Unrecognizable Without Her Usual Blunt Bangs

Zooey Deschanel is basically synonymous with bangs, so when she switched up her usual fringe for June 2015's Cosmopolitan cover, Zooey Deschanel was rendered almost unrecognizable. Almost. After all, she still has those big, blue eyes

Instead of the usual, eyelash-skimming, straight across look that Deschanel is known for, she rocked semi-sideswept bangs that blended into the rest of her layers. Bangs can be totally transformative, so if you don't have them and are on the fence about getting them, well, this cover image of The New Girl actress going the sideswept route might help you make your decision.

After all, a big hesitation a lot of have with bangs is that they're nervous to be stuck with a single style. You can see from this photo, however, that a set of bangs can be incredibly versatile. Swoosh 'em to the side, blow they straight, braid them back — there's a world of different fringe styles out there.

The pregnant actress and singer is pretty flawless on her Cosmo cover. It might be jarring to some of her fans that have not seen her play with her bangs lately, but trust me, there are other times she diddled with her bangs a tiny bit yet achieved a totally different look.

She does look different, yes. But unrecognizable? I wouldn't go that far. Here are five other times Zooey D. played with her bangs.

1. No Bangs

OK, this look, worn to the Met Gala in 2013, was bangs-free and yes, Zooey Deschanel was totally unrecognizable while bangs-less.

2. Clean Sweep

Deschanel's voluminous faux bob was very 1950s housewife, complete with the clean sweep bangs, which were pushed to the side and blended into the overall 'do. It looked kinda like her, but not really.

3. The New Girl With Curls

Her thick, defined curls and seemingly parted bangs were styled, but she still resembled the cute, sassy Zooey we know and love.

4. Going Deep

This deep side part made no difference. She was instantly familiar here.

5. Swept Away

Her usual deep sweep with her bangs looked a bit different, thanks to that knot of curls on her shoulder. If you thought bangs were the one note 'do, here's all the proof you need that they are anything but boring.
