Nina Dobrev Is Going To Do Big Things

by Caitlyn Callegari

Listen, it totally sucks when your favorite character, who also happens to be the lead of the show, uh, leaves the show. Especially when it's such a high intensity one like The Vampire Diaries, and you've spent six years and lots of dollars in therapy fees on it. But, despite our emotional attachment, we can't fault Nina Dobrev for leaving TVD, not after reading about the grand plans she has for her future. (Still, though, no matter who she portrays from here on out, she'll always be Elena Gilbert to us fans.)

In an interview with Self, Dobrev addressed the fanged elephant in the room and talked about how she wants to leave Mystic Falls with a bang. But, she's also pumped because this gives her the time and energy to explore all her options. She explained,

It’s important for me that it be epic and powerful. I feel like I’m a completely different person than I was and I've grown so much. It’s been a big part of my life, and I want it to be beautiful. I want it to end well... I've loved working on this show. It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I've been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them.

But enough with the sadness! Leaving The Vampire Diaries is only going to ensure that we see Dobrev in different roles more frequently. And, she talks about that exact hope with the magazine.

Dobrev was quoted as saying she's, "Very business minded," and it makes sense considering that the mag explains she's been plotting her career path for some time now. But it's the mention of her professed anxiousness for more challenging parts that really got my ears perked, because that's exactly what we've all been wanting, isn't it?

Self even revealed that beyond acting, Dobrev has dipped her toes into the screenwriting waters. So you see, how can we dwell on what we're losing in relation to The Vampire Diaries when we're gaining so much more? It seems almost a sure fire thing that the young and talented Dobrev is going to take over Hollywood. So wipe those tears, Elena Glibert mourners. Everything is looking up.
