On Thursday, fans of The Vampire Diaries are going to experience something they didn't think would happen until the series' end: Nina Dobrev will take her last bow as Elena Gilbert. As sad as TVD fans are, they might find comfort in knowing that Dobrev's last day on set was magical. In an interview with People, Dobrev opened up about her last day, which involved a lot of sadness, but also a lot of laughter — something I think will make Elena fans extremely happy.
For those who don't know, Dobrev considers herself a "prankster," and she brought her tricks to the TVD set for the past six years. Well, the crew managed to get Dobrev back for all of her pranks and Dobrev couldn't have asked for a better farewell. She revealed,
It was 2 o'clock in the morning on my last shot of my last scene – with Ian [Somerhalder] – and they asked for one more take. The camera operator came up to me and said, "Hey, you have something in your hair, let me get this out." And then he grabbed me, held down my arms so I couldn't move and the entire crew came up and dumped a kiddie pool of whipped cream and cake onto my head! They had decorations and Nerf guns and water guns, and I just got demolished.
Dobrev added, "I couldn't have wished or planned or hoped for a better way to leave the show than with my family caking me, head to toe. I would have disappointed if they hadn't planned something of that manner! It was so cool."
See all you depressed and unhappy fans? Dobrev's last day and final scene were filled with lots of joy and something the actress loves — pranks. I know it probably doesn't truly ease the pain, but it helps a bit to know she went out in a wonderful way.
For those who think Dobrev wasn't sad during her final days on set, she was. As she told People, "It was very sad. Bittersweet. There wasn't a moment that went by that I wasn't incredibly nostalgic and very self-aware and very in the moment. I knew that every time I did something, it was the last time I was going to do that thing."
Prepare the tissues, TVD fans, because I have a feeling we're going to need an entire box.
