Billboard Music Awards Honor Paul Walker

by Keertana Sastry

Who knew the Billboard Music Awards could make me tear up? Just one hour into the awards show on Sunday night, Tyrese Gibson and co-host Ludacris introduced Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, and Lindsey Stirling to perform the chart busting and moving song from Furious 7 "See You Again" which has become a musical tribute to the late Fast and Furious franchise star Paul Walker. While introducing the performance, Gibson and Ludacris proved how loved Paul Walker really was with his friends and with fans, especially judging by the emotional reactions from the audience.

The performance began heartbreaking honesty in the form of Charlie Puth's singer followed by an intense verse from Wiz Khalifa. There wasn't much by the way of name-dropping tributes happening in the performance. No big flashes, nothing majorly intense. It was actually kind of simple and beautiful, and featured a few moments where the screen behind the performers lit up with images of Walker as his iconic character Brian O'Connor with his cast mates and friends. Or as Vin Diesel would say, his family.

Even just moments where Wiz Khalifa was dancing to the music were emotional. But isn't that better, to just pay tribute to the man without any crazy gimmicks? I appreciated the tribute, and I think the rest of the Fast and the Furious family will, too.
