'Idol's Going to Be Peaceful This Year

by Lindsay Mannering

There was a lot of drama (well, "drama" is a strong word, but just go with it) surrounding the judges' position on American Idol Season 14, but it looks like everything's all worked out for the best. In the new American Idol Season 14 trailer, we see Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. do their thing during the audition rounds. Other than the fact that Connick Jr.'s teeth are glaringly white (does the dude bob for toothbrushes in a bucket of bleach?) the biggest take away from the four minute teaser trailer is that things look calm. Things seem civilized. Things seem boring.

But, boring can be good, I guess, if you don't like bickering on your judges' panels that turns into an all out war that takes over the series, its contestants, and its press. Frankly, I think we could all stand to have a season on Idol with a lot less mayhem. Last season was rough. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, when not arguing, didn't even seem like they wanted to be there during Season 13, and the contestants, well, I don't even remember who won. We could use a change of pace on Idol and thankfully, this tranquil trailer bodes well for a coherent season ahead.

Plus, the performances are promising, as well. A floppy-haired southern with a guitar? Sold. A cool chick with a Rihanna meets Miley vibe? In. Harry Connick's enviable tan? There's really nothing not to love.

American Idol Season 14 premieres Jan. 15.
