On May 19, Maroon 5 debuted their latest new single, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt," on the The Voice to commemorate the show's eighth season coming to a close. As is the case with all Maroon 5 songs, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" is catchy as hell but it's also a wee bit stranger than their usual songs. So what is Maroon 5's "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" about? Let's take a look.

"This Summer's Gonna Hurt" tells the classic tale of a boy who is captivated by a beguiling, beautiful young woman he sees partying and gallavanting around town. He is entranced by her, absolutely enthralled by her beauty. But, at the same time, he realizes that she is a superficial girl who is only concerned with the material things in life. Much to his chagrin, she's also not very intelligent and this becomes a problem for the protagonist of our littler story here. He knows he has no future with her but he can't resist her. What's a guy to do?

If you haven't heard the song yet, check out the lyric video for "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" below and speculate for yourself as to what our dear Adam Levine is singing about this time. For my take on the meaning behind "This Summer's Gonna Hurt," keep on reading.

She's a Party Girl with a Bad Habit...

I see her dancing in the streets
Sipping champagne on the beach
So expensive when she eats
Cause she's so fancy
I see her when I go to sleep
I check my phone when I am weak
She never posts anything deep
Cause she's so fancy

He wants to resist her and he knows staying away from her is in his best interest. She cares too much about material things and she's frivilous with her money to the point of recklessness. She parties endlessly and make bad decisions and yet... he still can't get her out of his mind as he drifts off to sleep at night.

... A Bad Habit for Drugs

Her body's hot
Her body's like the summer
I'm in a trance or something
Her mind is not, no
As sharp as all her diamonds
She must be smoking something

Her body is hot but her mind is not and that's never a good like. Though her diamonds could rip you to shreds, her witty banter could not. But at least she's hot. She seems as if she's doing drugs and it's inhibiting her already limited brain function. Did I mention that she's hot?

No Love Lost Here

I see her dancing on a fool
Like she's seventeen and cool
She really thinks that she can move
But it's just nasty
I see her when I go to sleep
I check my phone when I am weak
She never posts anything deep
Cause she's so fancy

She's a carefree spirit and likes to party but sometimes that comes off as desperate. He's grown to have a distaste for her because he can see the unappealing side of her lifestyle. But he still will text her when he's had a few too many bears. He'll occasionally even cave and stalk her on Twitter but she never has anything of consequence to say. *sigh*

The Chorus

This summer's gonna hurt like a motherf****r
F****r
This summer's gonna hurt like a motherf****r
F****r

This summer's gonna be a tough one for him 'cause even though he knows that she's bad for him... she's also hot. And you know what that means.
