Guy Surprises His Girlfriend With A Kitten

by Jamie Kenney

What's the best present you've ever received? Mine was my American Girl doll when I was 8 years old. (It's OK to be jealous.) Christmas was basically over and I had resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't getting a Samantha despite the fact that I had wanted one so badly. Then my uncle and his husband came over my house super late, at like 8PM, to hand me box decorated in jingle bell wrapping paper. I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story. But even my childhood elation probably doesn't come anywhere near this unadulterated joy of this boyfriend surprising his girlfriend with a kitten . To be fair, there's nothing cuter than a kitten. On the other hand, I really don't think I went this nuts when my kids were born, and they actually came out of my body and I had a whole bunch of endorphins going on. She's overreacting just a little, but still, I get it. Kittens are cute as sh*t.

The more realistic side of me immediately wants to go to practicalities. "Is a cat really a gift? Shouldn't you go to shelter and see if you connect with a cat first? Shouldn't you prep your house?" But then it's like, "Shut up, stupid brain! Look at how happy this kitten is making everyone! And for all you know, they've planned extensively for months! Just enjoy the damn moment!" So then I enjoyed the moment... and then I YouTubed another such moment... and another... and another... and it's amazing what watching people freak out in happiness can do to put you in a good mood. So I'm going to share with you some of my favorite "surprise kitten" videos.

First things first: the video that inspired it all.

Bonus points for the adorable bow.

Bonus points for the fact that it seems to take her a solid few seconds for it to register that it's actually a cat.

Bonus points for the fact that the kitten matches her hair. I should coordinate my next cat with my hair color.

This next one has some hysterical NSFW language

Bonus points for how quickly she goes from frenetically determined to melted puddle of contented tranquility.

Bonus points for how quintessentially Christmasy this is and the fact that the kitten is having none of this touching moment and just jets out of there.

Bonus points for the sibling hug in the beginning there, which really seems to have been spontaneous and genuine.

Bonus points because this kitten seems not only to mean a lot to her, but represents something to her. (OK, I might be projecting, but let's just roll with it.)

Bonus points because this little girl's reaction is SO happy, it's come out the other side to look terrified. Like, if you were just to watch her reaction this could just as easily be a video where someone murdered her kitten in front of her.

And, of course, you can't have a round-up of the best "surprise kitten" videos without including this little monkey...
