Glossier's Nasty Gal Pop-Up Shop Is Everything

by Tyler Atwood

Nothing is more thrilling to a fashion maven than discovering a favorite label has created an impromptu pop-up shop in a local boutique, and cult beauty brand Glossier is simply the latest company to engage in the practice. On June 5, Nasty Gal's Santa Monica storefront will host a Glossier pop-up shop for consumers who wish to snap up a handful of beauty basics while they browse the clothing boutique's covetable wares, Women's Wear Daily reports.

Created by Into the Gloss founder Emily Weiss in order to fill a perceived void in the beauty industry for clean and effective skincare essentials, Glossier currently offers six products: one facial mist, one moisturizer-meets-primer, a soothing balm, and two facial masks, plus one tinted moisturizer for good measure. Formulated to nourish all skin types without eating into consumers' life savings, the collection has drawn rave reviews from Into the Gloss interviewees in addition to a host of celebrities including the venerable Karlie Kloss. In reference to the forthcoming partnership with Nasty Gal, Weiss explained, "The amount of learning and collaboration that comes out in encounters offline is a really big driver of Glossier’s innovation. These environments give us an opportunity to not just meet and say ‘hi’ to these women, but also there are great things that come out of these meetings.”

Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso is similarly motivated with her own startup, if slightly further along in her career than Weiss. Following a debut on eBay, Amoruso created Nasty Gal to embody a uniquely insurgent sartorial manner without bankrupting shoppers. Her online and brick and mortar boutiques are now beloved amongst twenty-something consumers looking to supplement their wardrobes with both timeless and trendy pieces at affordable prices.

The temporary union between Glossier and Nasty Gal is a match made in heaven; after all, both brands draw consumers seeking quality, of-the-moment products without the exorbitant price tag. In addition, Glossier will play up its devotion to beautiful skin that is simply enhanced by beautiful cosmetics by bestowing "make-unders" on willing consumers. In other words, Santa Monica residents should be prepared for a day of pampering and retail therapy should they saunter into Nasty Gal's local boutique the weekend of June 5.
