'Batman Vs. Superman' Heating Up Slowly

We're in an understandable dry spell when it comes to Zack Snyder's onscreen Superman tales — the movie was released this summer, and the sequel has yet to yield any on-set pictures of Batfleck. The blu-ray is coming out, though, which resulted in a Kevin Smith-moderated panel that featured Snyder — and which yielded talk of the Batman vs. Superman Batman costume Ben Affleck's donning.

Here's what Smith said in his podcast re: Batfleck's new duds:

I saw the costume, more than that I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in a movie, on film before. For a comic book fan, it was mind-bending… Because every other movie has done this matrixy black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this fucking suit man… I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy Shit!’ It’s its own thing, man. We haven’t been down this path before…. There’s a very [beep]-influence to it, I would say.

So that's pretty cool. We're not saying Kevin Smith isn't biased when it comes to Ben Affleck — Jersey Girl exists and makes more of a case in opposition to that than anything — but Smith is also kind of the living embodiment of Comic Book Guy/Jeff Albertson from The Simpsons, y'know? You might forget he exists for a while and he certainly grumbles a lot, but you can't knock that the guy really does care about his comic books.

If there's one thing a Ben Affleck-as-Batman does not need, it is more reasons to compare him to Batmen of films past. A new costume will be refreshing and hopefully work to set him apart from the Clooneys and the Bales and the Michael Keatons.

Out of this event also comes de-facto confirmation that Lex Luthor is in this movie — which we'd all just assumed anyway — with Snyder's mention of the character at the panel. That comes after lots of discussion over whether Wonder Woman is set to make an appearance in the movie and, if she is, the very big follow-up question of who will play her.

But whadaya think the costume is? We going yellow insignia? Throwing some blue in there? Rockin' the gray? And what's the status on the tighty-whities?
