Katharine McPhee Does Nerd Chic At CFDA Awards

Smart is sexy, and no one is proving that like Katharine McPhee at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards. McPhee, 31, showed up looking nerd chic with a black-and-white ensemble and adorably bold, round framed glasses. Get out your notebooks and color coordinating pencils, because McPhee is about to take you to school.

McPhee gained fame when she placed second in the fifth season of American Idol. And tonight she's reminding me exactly why she earned that runner up "idol" status with those glasses. Seriously, how adorable? She styled them just right by pulling back her hair and pairing the specs with a bright, springtime appropriate lip color.

Her two-toned look starts with a sheer crop top paired with an ankle-length black skirt under a long, lapeled, sleeveless overcoat. Her sparkling, jeweled heels and hard square clutch give this otherwise sweet look an edge we love.

Turns out, largely white outfits are becoming a signature McPhee fashion statement. She wore another stark white, springtime dress at Zanotti's LA opening.

More than anything, it's refreshing to see specs embraced as high fashion and totally wearable for the red carpet. While most celebs opt for contacts, McPhee made the most of her necessary accessory — and totally rocked it.
