Did Nicki & Meek Break Up?

by Jaclyn Anglis

One thing we all know about Nicki Minaj is that she tries to keep her love life as private as possible. Despite her very animated public persona, she seems to prefer to keep important developments about her personal relationships quiet — until she's ready to talk about them. I mean, we're talking about a woman who kept mum about her reportedly 14 years long relationship with Safaree Samuels until their 2014 breakup. That's why fans might be scratching their heads about the rapper's recent social media posts and asking whether Nicki Minaj broke up with her boyfriend Meek Mill.

There has not been a definite statement about whether or not they broke up, but it cannot be denied that something appears to be amiss when you glance at the stars' respective social media pages. You know how you have some friends on Facebook and Instagram who post ominous-sounding photos or statuses with little explanation? Well, celebrities really are just like us in that they do the same exact thing, as demonstrated by our own Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill. One photo in particular that Minaj posted to Instagram is getting quite a bit of attention, not so much for the picture itself, but for the accompanying caption. Check it out below:

Yikes! "Dodging a bullet" is, more often than not, used when describing relief that you did not make it to the altar with your ex. Now, it's worth pointing out that the rapper could have been referring to another ex from a previous relationship. After all, her latest album, Pinkprint, was widely described as a breakup album reflecting on Samuels, so we know that she is not exactly shy about dishing on the past when she is ready. But at the same time, it seems sort of random to bring Samuels (or any other ex, for that matter) up right now on Instagram.

And, if you take a close look at Meek Mill's Instagram, it only seems to add fuel to the fire that there may be some trouble in paradise. On the same day that Minaj posted the "dodged a bullet" picture, Mill posted a snap of himself exiting a car with the equally cryptic caption, "Even bosses got feelings, ya kno?" On top of that, he also posted the gem below:

Double yikes. Another thing we know about Minaj is that she is a savvy businesswoman who always keeps her mind on her money, so it is a bit alarming that Mill's post criticizes people who are too focused on money. It goes without saying that Minaj is not the only one in the industry with this take-no-prisoners approach to money, but it does seem rather odd that both rappers would make such critical-sounding posts on the same day. This comes not even after a week after Mill confirmed that they are not engaged and are "feeling each other out," in an interview with The Fader.

But it is still possible that this could not be the end. After all, on June 1, Minaj did tweet, "I love my baby." Maybe we're all just jumping to conclusions, especially since in none of her posts has it been clear that she was referring to Mill. We will have to stay tuned to see if this is truly the end. Hopefully, we won't have to wait until her next album!
