'Divergent' Is the YA Adaptation We Need

Beautiful Creatures, Ender's Game, The Mortal Instruments — why is it that none of these YA film adaptations have translated well to the big screen? A lot of factors are at play: A boring cast, subpar acting, shitty promotional efforts, a plot that is all cheese and no bite — any one of these, or a combination, will result in a big-budget YA film tanking hard at the box office. So, it's a good thing that Divergent , which now has a new poster, seems to have none of these things.

For example: Boring cast? Uh, no, Shailene Woodley (who dazzled in The Descendants) and Kate Winslet (who dazzles in life, overall) star, and Theo James isn't half bad to look at. Subpar acting? Once again, KATE WINSLET. Shitty promotional efforts? Hardly — in addition to this cool poster, a trailer for the film has already been released, and it made the film look like an awesome version of The Terminator. Sold! A plot that's all cheese and no bite? It's about a girl who kicks enough ass to make Buffy proud. If you have a better idea for a book/movie, I'd like to hear it.

But seriously, don't let the YA tag fool you — I'm calling it now, this movie is going to be great. Unfortunately, we all have to wait another few months to see it in theaters as it comes out on March 20, 2014, but until then you can check out the new poster, featuring Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) standing on the top of a building overlooking Chicago. Sidenote: Who else thought of Futurama when they saw this poster?
