Girls Has Amazing Response To Body Shamer

by Lara Rutherford-Morrison

Christina Topacio is an LA-based blogger, YouTuber, and Instagrammer known for showing off her great personal style and penning honest essays about her life. But, this being the Internet and all, of course somebody felt compelled to offer her completely unsolicited “advice” about her body. Recently, a male follower, whom she had never met, messaged Topacio suggesting that, if only she would lose weight, he’d be willing to date her. Lucky her, right? Fortunately, the blogger responded the body shaming troll in epic fashion, showing that you don’t need a lot of words to shut down a bully, just a single, perfect photo.

A few days ago Topacio posted the conversation to Twitter, clarifying that she’d never met this guy in person. The conversation shows that, even though he didn’t even really know her, this man felt justified in contacting her and asking, “[C]an I tell you something that might make you never wanna talk to me again, but I want to tell you anyways.” When she assented, he began by laying on the praise:

I watch your snaps. i follow your pictures. i’m f*ckin constantly creepin. …you are so beautiful. Your personality is so hilarious. I can tell youre witty. I can tell your smart. I can tell your just pure fun and comedy.

And then he offered the ultimate compliment: “I would seriously consider dating you.” Every girl’s dream, right? Oh, but there’s a catch:

But you know what? And it f*cking kills me to say this … and its nothing you dont already know. And Im positive you've thought about it. And I'm only telling you this because I want it to effect a change.

You need to f*cking lose weight. It kills me.

Good to know that it hurts him, right?

Ugh. I think many of us would respond to such a text with a slew of all caps and four-letter words, but Topacio took the high road and responded simply, “Well your opinion is your own. Thanks for your feedback.”

She later followed up with an epic selfie of herself and a Chipotle bowl, a perfect, wordless “F*ck you” to this guy and his unsolicited opinion. Sometimes a picture really does say everything.

That image alone would make this story awesome, but JUST WAIT it gets better: Now that the exchange has gone viral, the dude wants to “capitalize on this somehow.” That’s right, he has messaged Topacio to find a way to exploit his own douchebaggery.

This conversation, and Topacio’s excellent response, have blown up across the Internet in the last few days, but Topacio seems to be taking it in stride. She told People,

My story is not a new story, this happens to women constantly. I'm just happy to have been given an opportunity to share my personal experience in hopes that it empowers women to shut it down and ultimately say, f---- the rest – I'm beautiful, I'm strong, I'm powerful, I'm 100 percent me."
