Travie McCoy Teams Up With Sia On "Golden"

by Alex Kritselis

On Monday, Gym Class Heroes rapper Travie McCoy premiered his new single, "Golden," featuring sought-after Australian singer-songwriter Sia Furler, and it's an uplifting love song that's just perfect for summertime. Believe it or not, McCoy hasn't had a solo hit since "Billionaire" with Bruno Mars back in 2010. (His two most recent singles — "Rough Water" with Jason Mraz and "Keep On Keeping On" with Brendon Urie — both fizzled without making much of an impact.) Could "Golden" change his luck?

I think so.

"Golden" has a sunny, feel-good vibe that's hard to resist. McCoy's lyricism leaves something to be desired (he drops a Doug Funnie reference in the second verse that's just... no), but there's something about his laid-back delivery style that I've always found charming. Plus, Sia is in top form on the track's lovey-dovey pre-chorus and hook:

You got that look in your eyes, eyes

I can tell you had bad dreams last night

Let me take you in my arms

You can cry, cry

Let me love you 'til you feel alright

'Cause I'm yours

You are mine, you are mine, mine

Not going anywhere, I am standing by your side

I will love you 'til the end of time, time

I will love you 'til the day we die

Don't fear, baby

'Cause you and me are golden

When you can't breathe, it's you that I'll be holdin'

Yes, I'm all in, through thick and thin

This is good lovin'

You and me are golden

Yes, I can definitely envision "Golden" taking over the radio waves this summer. If you ask me, summertime can always use more Sia.

"Golden" is available on iTunes now.
