Ashley Tisdale's Got A New Show

by Jodi Walker

Nothing can bring on a bout of adolescent nostalgia quite like seeing a picture of Ashley Tisdale in one of her pink satin and sequined ensembles from High School Musical... or Ashley Tisdale in her wide-knotted tie from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody... or Ashley Tisdale in a slightly updated pink satin and sequined ensemble from a different High School Musical movie. But, Tisdale is so much more than Sharpay Evans. She's clearly turned into a lovely and successful working actress as she's graduated out of Disney territory and into adult roles. Tisdale's newest show, Clipped , about a group of former high school classmates all working in a barber shop together, premieres Tuesday on TBS with Tisdale in the lead role.

But, whether you've been hearing her name as much you might have in 2006 or not, this isn't Tisdale's first visit back to the small screen. Tisdale also gave music a go during her High School Musical tenure, debuting an album in 2007 and a second in 2009, but it looks like she's focusing on TV these days, maintaining a steady pop culture presence on and off the screen since you last saw her aggressively heart eye-ing Troy Bolton. No, Tisdale didn't go the way of A-list movie star like her co-star pal Zac Efron, she chose a different route: Hollywood mogul in the making. Check out what she's been up to during the transition from high school cafeteria to post-high school barber shop.

Having Cast Reunions

If you're going to make a (good) name for yourself in Hollywood, you've got to have friends behind you. Fortunately, she's still besties with Vanessa Hudgens from way back in their Disney days. They even shared a proud friendship moment together this month when Tisdale introduced Hudgens' 2015 Tony Awards performance from her title role in Gigi.

Perhaps most excitingly though, Tisdale recently posted an incredibly precious Instagram of her former Suite Life co-stars, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, towering over her as they all met up as adult pals.

Major Voice Acting

With breaks for trying to start a music career, unfortunately canceled series (miss you, Hellcats), and lots of side projects, Tisdale's fans haven't seen her on TV screens as much as they would have liked in the last few years. But, they've probably heard her! Since 2007, Tisdale has been voicing scheming sister Candace on Disney Channel's extremely popular show, Phineas and Ferb. And, in 2013, she began voicing the title role in the animated series, Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch on the Hub Network, which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 2014.

Executive-Producing

Before Tisdale got her new role in Clipped, she had mostly excused herself from onscreen roles to focus on her work with the production company she formed in 2008, Blondie Girl Productions. She first served as an executive producer on an ABC Family movie starring herself called Picture This. Blondie Girl Productions later signed a production deal with Relativity Media and produced probably its most successful venture yet: ABC Family's Young and Hungry, starring Emily Osment, which was recently picked up for a second season.

Judging by her friendship with Osment, Tisdale is just as fun an executive producer as she is a co-star.

Getting Married

2014 marked the year that she married boyfriend Christopher French, lead singer of the band Annie Automatic. Super cute.

So, yeah, our little Sharpay Evans is all grown up, but I can't wait to see what she does in her new television series as she introduces the world to a whole new character.
