Caitlyn Jenner Thanks Laverne Cox For Her Support

by Jaclyn Anglis

You go, girl! That seemed to be the message Laverne Cox sent to Caitlyn Jenner after Jenner's groundbreaking Vanity Fair cover was released. Being a transgender woman, Cox knows all about the kind of courage it took for Jenner to debut her authentic self. The actress is among many who have publicly applauded Jenner for being so brave in doing just that. And now, the Olympic gold medalist has responded to the show of love via Twitter. Caitlyn Jenner thanked Laverne Cox for her support on Wednesday by tweeting,

@LaverneCox, you are fierce and fabulous! Your support means the world. Thank you for all that you do for the community. #TransIsBeautiful.

Earlier this month, Cox took to Tumblr to respond to Jenner's Vanity Fair cover as such: "I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving. It feels like a new day, indeed, when a trans person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally." It is really lovely that in the midst of Jenner's surely crazy schedule that she has found some time to respond. And her response is a really sweet message, and a great show of appreciation for another trans woman who has shared her story, struggles, and triumphs from a very public point of view. But what's more, it is an important way of showing solidarity with one another as they both send a message of positivity about the trans community as a whole.

This exchange is important because it shows both women on a public platform working together for a common cause. It is obviously important for both of them to have their own voices. No two trans people's experiences are the same and it cannot be denied that Cox and Jenner come from very different backgrounds and thus have different stories to tell. But it is also important that they talk about the commonalities in their experiences. After all, they're part of a community that is trying to reach the entire world and educate people about their journeys. The more connections they have, the better. And what better way to build those connections than a hashtag on social media?

Both women have used the hashtag #TransIsBeautiful in order to send an affirmative message to the world. #TransIsBeautiful sends a memo that not only are trans people lovely inside and out, they are also here to stay and are not going away just because of hateful and discriminatory people in the world or harmful stereotypes against the community.

If these two work together to combat negativity about the trans community, they will be all but unstoppable. With their talent, tenacity, strength, beauty, and platform, they have all the qualities of great representatives for making a difference. It will be exciting to see their next step beyond the hashtag!
