On Wednesday, President Obama presented sixteen individuals with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Along with the Congressional Gold Medal, it’s the highest honor a civilian can receive from the United States government, and is presented to people who’ve made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” This year’s mix included a musician, a journalist, an astronaut, two U.S. Senators, and many more.
