Donald Trump's Not Apologizing

by Greta Jochem

"You're fired!" NBCUniversal gave Donald Trump a dose of his own medicine Monday after the network announced they would cut ties with the real estate mogul. In a press release, NBCUniversal declared that "respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our value," and they would end their relationship because of Trump's "derogatory statements." The Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants were cancelled, and Trump will no longer be on The Apprentice.

When Trump announced his political campaign for the 2016 presidency, he called Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers, enraging people. But already, he has responded in a statement posted on his Instagram account.

NBC is weak, and like everyone else is trying to be politically correct — that is why our country is in serious trouble. ... We must have strong borders and not let illegal immigrants enter the United States. ... Public reports routinely state great amounts of crime are being committed by illegal immigrants. This must be stopped and it must be stopped now.

Trump also responded to NBCUniversal's decision in Chicago, as reported by CNN, saying, "The fact is, my stance on immigration is correct, and some people may not think so, but ultimately my stance is correct on immigration." After his comments outraged people and NBCUniversal ended their business relations, Trump still hasn't apologized. At this point, a lot of politicians would apologize — even if they still think they are right — to save their image. But Trump stands by his racist words. Here are three other times Trump should have apologized, but didn't.

His Comments On Obama's Birth Certificate

In April 2011, Trump told the Today show, "I have people that have been studying [Obama’s birth certificate] and they cannot believe what they’re finding... I would like to have him show his birth certificate, and can I be honest with you, I hope he can. Because if he can’t, if he can’t, if he wasn’t born in this country, which is a real possibility…then he has pulled one of the great cons in the history of politics.” Even last February, years after Obama released his birth certificate, The Huffington Post reported Trump still questions its validity.

His Global Warming Tweets

Winter does not mean that global warming is a hoax, Trump. This is not only ignorant, but insulting to scientists and environmentalists. According to NASA, 97 percent of scientists agree that climate change is happening and "very likely due to human activities."

His Post-Obama Win Comments

In November 2012, after Obama won the presidential election, Trump went on a complete Twitter tirade. Mashable reported that he tweeted, "Lets [sic] fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us," and "This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!"

Given his past offensive comments and lack of apologizes, it's no surprise that Trump hasn't apologized for his racist comments.
